Birth Doula Services
Consultation
A phone consultation is our opportunity to get to know each other and see if I would be a good fit for you and your birth team. We will chat about how your pregnancy has been thus far, any plans you’ve made for your birth, and what type of support you’re looking for from a doula. We will then discuss the services I offer and what might be the best fit for you.
Prenatal
Before you deliver we will meet in-person to get to know each other more, talk about your vision for your birth, discuss any questions or concerns you may have, practice pain management techniques and labor positions, and ensure that you feel supported and empowered leading up to your birth. If you have a partner or primary support person who will be with you during labor and delivery, this is a great time for me to get to know your partner and equip them with the skills and confidence to help support you in labor - it’s a team effort!
Labor & Birth
From 38 weeks gestation until you deliver, I’ll be on-call 24/7 for labor and birth. Once you are in labor, I’ll join you in your home or at the location you will be delivering at to provide constant support. This support can include creating your ideal laboring environment, labor positioning, comfort measures like counter-pressure, acupressure, and massage, pain management recommendations, answering questions, and helping you advocate for yourself and your birth preferences. I’ll work collaboratively with your birth partner and birth team to provide consistent encouragement and support. Following delivery, I’ll stay with you for one to two hours to ensure that you feel comfortable and cared for and to assist with establishing breastfeeding if you choose to do so.
Postpartum
Within approximately two weeks of delivery, we will plan a visit to talk about your birth story and help you and your partner process the experience. During this time we can also discuss any breastfeeding, postpartum care, or newborn care questions that may have come up in your first few days at home. I can also provide referrals for continuing postpartum doula care, lactation counselors, and other care providers, as needed.
